Thursday July 1, 2010 - Mount Penn Hike

LES will lead a circuitous hike of about 6 miles from Egelman’s Park to the tower and other points of interest on Mount Penn. Wear sturdy hiking boots and carry water and snacks, if desired. A lunch stop afterwards is optional.

Meeting place: 9:30 A.M. @ Egelman’s Park located at Hill Road and Angora Road in Reading, Pa.

Thursday June 24, 2010 - Fort Zeller's Newmanstown

GERRY & WILLIE will lead the Fort Zeller’s – Newmanstown hike of 6 miles around and through Newmanstown, Pa. The hike will be on macadam roads and alleys going past historical Fort Zeller’s, a fish hatchery and Memorial Park. Dress for the weather; carry water and snacks, if desired. A lunch stop after the hike is an option.

Sinking Spring to carpool.


Second meeting place: 10:00 A.M. @ Parking lot on Sheridan Road across from Elias U.C.C. church in Newmanstown, Pa.

Thursday June 17, 2010 -West Side, East Side, All Around Readingtowne!

EDNA PARR & KAY WILLIAMS will lead a 6 mile hike on and in the “West side, East side, all around Readingtowne”. Come join “The Dynamic Duo” and see Edna’s house from every angle. There will be two separate in-and-out hikes. The first hike will be on the unfinished Neversink Trail located on the east side of the Schuylkill River. We will trek to Heritage Park to see Jackson’s landing, an old bridge abutment and foundations from “the glory days” of the canal. We will proceed to as far as we can and then turn around to return to the Reading Area Community College. Next we traverse over a bridge across the Schuylkill River to the west shore; hiking past the Bertolet Fishing Pier, walk a section of the West Reading Bike Trail, travel under a bypass tunnel and return to our starting point.

Thursday June 10, 2010 - Middlecreek Wildlife Management Area

MARK BANKES will lead a hike of 4 to 6 miles in the Middlecreek Wildlife Management Area. The hike will be mostly on woodland trails, so wearing hiking boots is suggested, since we may be meandering in mud at some locations. This is a great place to see wild fowl and flowers and Mark is great at identifying them. A lunch stop after the hike is optional.
