Thursday March 3, 2011 - Shartlesville

MARGARET will lead a 7 mile loop hike in the Shartlesville area. We will begin our hike on the Sand Spring Trail to junction with and continue on the Appalachian Trail and then return to our cars via the service road. Expect rocky terrain with some muddy areas. If adverse trail conditions exist, we will use the service road for our hike. Several Wanderers did this a few years ago and discovered a winter wonderland with icy trees and outstanding views. Bring your ice grippers (Yak Trax, etc.) for your boots. There will be an optional lunch stop after the hike.

MEET: 9:30 A.M. @ Shartlesville Game Land Parking Lot.

TELEPHONE: Margaret 610-779-8393 if any questions.

This new trail will be part of the BRANDYWINE TRAIL connecting the Horse Shoe Trail to the Mason-Dixon Trail, with part of the trail being a former trolley line.

After the hike we will stop for lunch at the Blue Café in Downingtown.

MEET: 9:30 A.M. @ Elverson Deli (Rtes. 23 & 82) in Elverson to carpool to start of hike, or call leader if planning to meet at trail head located along route 322 at the Trestle Bridge south of Downingtown.
