Thursday October 9, 2025 - SWATARA STATE PARK

Easy to moderate 4-miles

Hike will be led at Swatara State Park in Lebanon County, starting at the Trout Run Trail Head Parking Lot off RT 72. There are moderate hills and a few rocks. We will be hiking part of the AT and other trails to make it a loop. For those who want to make the hike longer, we will continue on the AT, completing all the trail within Swatara Start Park. Lunch is optional afterwards at Esther’s in Fredericksburg or Moose’s outside Fort Indiantown Gap.

 Meeting place & Time: 9:45 A.M. at Trout Run Trail Head in Swatara State Park. 

GPS: 40.482745, 76.545741 (Note:Do not use Swatara State Park in your GPS, it will direct you to Pine Grove, not the TRAIL HEAD.)

Directions: Interstate 78 to Interstate 81North. Exit at first Exit (Lickdale/Ft Indiantown Gap, Route 72). Left at light on top of exit. Left at the next light (North on route 72). Trout Run is 3 miles on the right. If you reach Rt 443, you’ve gone too far.

NOTE: Wear Orange.  Major rain will cancel this hike.

Thursday October 2, 2025 - Oren Holl Memorial Loop

Approximately 4 miles

This is an approx. 4 mile very hilly hike. Hills are quite moderate but, there are a lot. Very pleasant walk through the woods. Be aware this is a mountain biking trail. WEAR ORANGE TO BE SAFE. 

Meeting place & Time : 9:30 AM at Holl’s Trailhead off Highland Road. 

DIRECTIONS: From State Hill Road turn Left onto Brownsville Road. Turn RIGHT onto Highland Road at Spitlers Collision. (Approx. 1.7 miles) The road is not maintained and very rutty. The Trailhead in on the RIGHT.

Heavy snow or rain will cancel.  Light snow could be nice.

Thursday September 18, 2025 - Kaercher Creek Dam & Vicinity Hike

Approximately 4.5 miles. 

We will do some trails in the now closed Kaercher Creek County Park. We will see some remnants of the graded but never finished Allentown and Auburn railroad from 1875, as well as a nice blend of woods, town roads, cemetery, and fields. Lunch to be decided the day of the hike. 

Meeting Place & Time: 10:00 AM @ Kaercher Creek boat launch area. 

DIRECTIONS: Take Rt. 61 to Hamburg, bear right onto 4th St., at third traffic light turn right onto State St. (Old Rte. 22). Proceed about one mile and turn right at driveway into the former park, across from the Hamburg Center. Look for the red and white sign for the Hamburg Soccer Assn.

This will be an ADVENTURE HIKE - direction and mileage up to the group.

Thursday September 4, 2025 - Dry Brooks Day Use Area (Upper Lot)

Mileage up to determination by group.

We will take the Border Trail to Route 183 and return partially on the same trail but then use other trails to complete the hike. 

Meeting Place and Time: 9:30 at the Dry Brooks Day Use Area upper lot 

DIRECTIONS: Turn into the Dry Brooks Day Use Area from Palisades Rd. Pass the guard shack and Vista Pavilion. Continue past where the driveway turns left with a circle parking area straight ahead. Pull into the first parking area to the left at the top of the hill, not below where swimming parking is located.

Thursday August 21, 2025 - Birdsboro Reservoir

 Approx. 3-4 miles

Leader will take us to check out the new bridge over Hay Creek and walk to the scenic reservoir. This is a very relaxing hike!

Meeting place: 9:30am at the Rustic Park  in Birdsboro

Directions: From 422 East: Turn right onto route 345 toward Birdsboro. At second light, go straight onto furnace Street, follow this as it becomes Hay Creek Road. then go approximately 0.9 miles to Rustic Park.

Thursday August 14, 2025 - Blue Marsh Hike

 Approximately 4 or 6 miles - optional lengtth

Leader will take us for a hike in Blue Marsh from Old Church Road off of Route 183. An easy in and out hike. Mostly but not all in the shade. Wear orange. Heavy precipitation cancels hike.

Meeting place: 9:30am for Old Church road Trailhead

Directions: Take 183 North, pass the Blue Marsh Restaurant, in about 2.5 miles, make a left turn onto Old Church Road. Parking lot is on the left.

Thursday August 7, 2025 - Scott's Run Lake Hike

 Approx. 5.5 miles

Moderately strenuous hike beginning at Scott's Run Lake and includes sections of the Horseshoe, Boone, Kalmia, 6 Penny, and Lenape Trails. Hike is French Creek north of Scott's Run Lake and includes several hill climbs.

Meeting place: 10:00am at Scott's Run Lake in French Creek State Park

Directions: Take route 345 South from Birdsboro. After passing Shed Road on left take the next right onto Park Road, then take second right turn onto Scott's Run Road. The first left turn takes you to the Scott's Run Lake parking area.

Thursday July 17, 2025 - Warwick to Ephrata Rail Trail

Mileage - determined by group

Hike leader will lead a 4-to-6-mile hike along the Warwick-to-Ephrata Rail Trail. Distance will be determined by the weather and the wishes of the hikers. We will head west from the Parkview Heights parking lot and return on the same trail.

Meeting place: 10:00 AM at Parkview Heights trailhead.

Directions: Take Route 222 south. Exit at Ephrata (Route 322) and proceed toward Ephrata. Pass the initial shopping (Walmart, Giant). Turn left at Bethany Rd (It may be the first left after the shopping. There
is a traffic light here.) After about 1/3 mile turn right onto Parkview Heights Rd. Proceed about 1 mile. The trailhead is to the right about where Steinmetz Rd connects to the left.

We will hike the Dog Lake and Switchback Trails.

Meeting place: 9:30 AM at Stilling Basin - Upper lot near the basin

Directions: From Route 183 north, turn left at the CVS onto W. Leesport Road. Turn right onto County Welfare Road. At stop sign, turn left onto Palisades Road, then right into the Stilling Basin.

Thursday June 19, 2025 - Antietam Lake Park & Mt. Penn

5-to-6-mile loop hike at Antietam Lake Park and Mt. Penn. 

We will be on the Gravity Trail and Ferndale Trail plus other Trails. We will be passing Kuechler's Roost, the Kiedeisch stone cellar, and hope to find an old cistern. There will be some hills to climb.

Meeting place: 9:30 AM at the U-turn bend on Angora Rd at Antietam Lake.

DIRECTIONS: From Boscov's East, take Business Route 422 toward Reading.
After about a mile turn right at a traffic light with Mt Penn Family Restaurant on the left and European Motors on the right. Go down the hill, and at the 'Y' (Arbor Inn 
across the street), turn left. Go thru the traffic light at St Lawrence Ave, then take the first left crossing the Antietam Creek onto Harvey Ave. Continue to Carsonia Ave, then turn right. Proceed to the stop sign at the 'T'. Bear left onto Antietam Rd. Take the first left onto Angora Rd and follow it to the horseshoe bend and the parking lot on the left.

Approx. 6+ miles

Leader will do a shuttle hike to Dan's Pulpit. 

Meeting place: 9:30 AM at State Game lands 106 on Pine Swamp Road in Eckville. Carpool to Appalachian Trail Shelter parking area on Hawk Mountain Road. 

Address: 409 Pine Swamp Road, Kempton, PA

Directions: Take Route 61 North to Route 895. It is 16 miles north of Route 222. Turn right and travel 2.5 miles to Hawk Mountain Road. Turn right and travel 3.8 miles to Pine Swamp Road. Turn right and travel .8 miles to a dirt road on the right. This is the entrance to the parking lot.
