KAY & KATHY will lead COVERED BRIDGE PARK, ALLENTOWN Enjoy a 4.5 mile hike from one covered bridge to another alongside beautiful Jordan Creek. It will be a 38 mile drive to entrance of park. There are both shady and wide open spaces so plan appropriately for weather. Hike will be fairly level walking on park trails and roads.
FIRST MEET: 9:00 A.M. behind McDonald’s 5th St Highway (across from Wal-Mart).
SECOND MEET AND DIRECTIONS: CLOSEST GPS: 2465 Wehr Mill Road, Allentown, PA. We will park in main parking lot. Take 222 North and get on route 22 east. Next take route 309 North about 2.5 miles. Right turn exit at Lime Kiln Road (there is a traffic light). Drive .6 mile and turn right onto Wehr Mill Road. Cross the covered bridge and turn left into the parking lot. Please call and let one of the leaders know if planning to meet at the second meeting place.

Thursday Sep 5, 2019 - Cacoosing Park / Spring Valley
GERRY & WILLIE will lead 2 different hikes, 2 different areas, only 1 day. We will meet at Cacoosing Park, Sinking Spring and take the trails around the park and ball fields. (Job Johnnies available) Approximately 2 miles in this area. Then, we will travel to the shopping area off Broadcasting Road and park in the lot near 84 or 94 Commerce Drive. Here we will hike the macadam path all around the businesses at Spring Valley area. Approximately 1 ½ to 2 miles in this area. Both will be leisure hikes. Lunch options are Cloud Nine or Isaac’s afterwards.

BEV says, let’s check out the Union Canal Tunnel in Lebanon and the newly opened section of the Lebanon Valley Rail to Trail. No hills for this hike; distance will be 5 to 6 miles, most of it in shade. Lunch afterwards at the Dutch Way Market in Myerstown.

Thursday Aug 15, 2019 - French Creek
MIKE will lead a strenuous hike on the Turtle Trail at French Creek State Park for 6.2 miles. We will walk, on the road, ¼ mile to the trailhead for the Turtle Trail. The trail is hilly, narrow and rocky. Hiking boots (not shoes) are recommended. If you have hiking poles and insect repellent or a mosquito net, bring them along. Heavy rain cancels. Did I mention the trail is rocky? Bring an extra pair of shoes to change into after the hike. Your feet will appreciate it. Optional lunch afterwards will be at the Exeter Family Restaurant.

Thursday Aug 8, 2019 - Coventry Woods
LES will lead a hike of about 5 miles in Coventry Woods. From the main parking lot, we will use the Love Valley trail to climb to the ridge, then down the opposite side to Rock Run. After the walk along the creek, we climb back to the ridge and return via the Great Oak trail.

DIRECTIONS 1: Take Rte. 724 east from Birdsboro. About three quarters of a mile past River Bridge Rd (The road/bridge leading to Douglassville.), turn right onto Unionville Rd. All Type Fence is located at this intersection. Follow Unionville Rd. 2.1 miles past Temple Church and Shenkel Church. Turn right at St. Peter’s Rd., then after about half a mile turn left into Coventry Woods (Fernbrook Lane is to the right). Parking is just over the crest of the hill.
DIRECTIONS 2: From Route 23, take St Peter's Rd through St Peter's Village and continue for about 4 more miles on St Peter's Rd. When you see Fernbrook Lane to the left, turn right into Coventry Woods.

Thursday Aug 1, 2019 - Stony Mountain
GROVER will lead a hike in the Gold Mine Rd, Lebanon County area on Stony Mountain. Estimate 5 miles. Last mile is about 1 mile gradual uphill back to cars. There will be a stream crossing. I expect the water level to be low in August. Heavy rain or snow, hike would be questionable. Lunch afterwards to be determined.
