Thursday Sep 13, 2018 - Douglass Township

LES will take you on a 5.5 mile, primarily road hike through Douglass Township, Berks County. The hike begins at Ironstone Park. Here you can view a high old time trestle bridge still used by the Colebrookdale Railroad. We begin along the Ironstone Creek and follow rural roads, occasionally reencountering the Ironstone Creek. Ultimately, as we approach Route 100, we depart the roadway and walk back a farm lane to the Fritz Burying Ground, a historic colonial era graveyard restored by Douglass Township in the 1990s. The return to the starting point repeats many of the same roads. This hike was done several years ago when the graveyard was covered in snow.

MEET #1: 9:30 A.M. @ Redner's in Douglassville, Routes 422W and 662 for a 6 mile ride to the starting location. Park away from Redner's toward the ACE hardware store.
MEET #2: 9:50 A.M. @ Ironstone Park, approximately 70 Grist Mill Rd, Boyertown, PA.

TELEPHONE: Leader Les 610-323-1703 with questions.
